Bruce's Games
Who is this guy?
- My interest in history soon led to involvement in wargaming and role
playing games. I have been playing boardgames of all kinds for over twenty
years, and I have an eclectic collection of over 100 games. Some of my
favourites include:
-
- Advanced Third Reich - the classic
Avalon Hill strategic simulation of the
European Theatre during WW2, and it's sister game Empire of the Rising Sun,
covering the Pacific war. I would dearly love to play the Global War game which
links these two, but I don't have any opponents. Takers, anyone?
- Republic of Rome - another Avalon Hill, a simulation of the
turbulent politics of the Roman senatorial aristocracy. An outstanding
combination of gaming depth, historical insight and beer & pretzels!
- 1829 - from Hartland Trefoil Games, one of the classic
18xx series
railway games. If you like games and you've never played one of these, do
it now!
- History of the World - the original Gibson Games version. The
whole of human history is never the same twice - and all in less than three
hours!
- Ars Magica -
Atlas Games' evocative
RPG set in Mythic Europe (which is roughly historical 13th century Europe,
but with Magic and Faeries). Best magic system of any RPG game ever, allowing
you to roleplay a mage and really
feel like you're a master of arcane lore.
- GURPS - Steve Jackson's
generic RPG system, applicable to any scenario anywhere, anytime, as simple
or as complex as you want to make it, and an excellent combat system for
authentic feeling duels etc. At its' best in a situation where the PCs move
rapidly from one situation to another, like Time Travel or a situation like the
TV show 'Sliders'. Also has good psionics, but IMO the magic system is very
weak compared to Ars Magica.
- The unplayed multitude - I have at least 20 games which I've never
played, from impluse buys which I've never had the players for, to free issue
games from Strategy & Tactics and similar magazines. I'm sure there are a
few gems in there somewhere.
- If you're interested in any of these,
